Why PHP is Open Source?
We should remember the history of open source by Richard Stallman. When rumor says, his not satisfied with his printer software where is a close source, because the software didn't work as what he want and he cannot fix the problem. So, he thinking about Open Source Initiative and he made it real.
Given by open source's history, we get a simple important thing to answer the question, why PHP is open source? It's a part of story when Richard Stallman didn't satisfied with his printer software. He want change the program but he cannot, so he made an Open Source Initiative where the software developed and the code is still can be changed.
Open Source is a name for developing a software and free to redistribution the blueprint or the software's source code. When the source code can seen, copied, and modified with GNU License. Generally, the source code refers to a program in which the source is available to use and/or modification from original design. So, another programmer could develop the source to their needs.
And what about PHP, when hear PHP, you'll thinking about a programming language where it run on web browser..It's not product or software or source code, PHP has two process, server side and client side, but PHP just run at server side, when at the client side show the HTML code, it didn't need a compiler to run a php program, just run on the web browser and the HTML page will show on client side. So, when the developer finish his PHP program and give it to the owner, the owner could have the program and the source code.
The Conclussion
So the answer why PHP is Open Source, is just because when the developer give the program to the owner, the owner will get the code and he could modified, so if sometimes he want add a new feature, he could add by him self.Tags: PHP
